Championship lead switches hands at Melbourne! |
|

This weekend was the penultimate race in the ProF1r 2008 Championship, and we see yet another great win from Ferrari driver Joni Varis. Qualifying showed that the Patel brothers where on top form and would make it hard for title contenter David Smith. And as Ibrahim was also in title hunt he was more then happy to see the Mclaren behind him. Joni Varis was clear pole with a time of 1:25.561, a good 7tenths faster then 2nd place on grid man Muhammed Patel. David Smith struggled with traffic and on his last flying lap came up behind Petteri Kotovarra, he managed to get passed him easy enough but into the very next corner Petteri touched the back of Davids car sending him into gravel trap and end of qualy. David was not happy and quoted "we are fighting for the championship and to have a driver who is not take you out when on a hotlap is poor" Petteri shortly after appolagised for the mistake.

Race
Race got of to a frantic start, with Force India driver Skoop diving inbetween cars to try make up some places before first corner and very nearly taking out title contentder David Smith, there is much debate still going on to what happened to Ibrahim Patel in first corner, words where exchanged between Skoop and Ibrahim after the race but race stewards have still to come to a desicion.
After the first corner Joni, Muhammed and Magic Alonso pulled away while David was stuck behind the hopefull Skoop. After a load of laps David managed to get through and started chasing the fight between Magic Alonso and his teammate Muhammed Patel where teamorders where clearly not happening here as both where giving it there best, was great to see. Magic came up behind the lapped car of Bradley Phillpot in his first race and struggled to noticed the blue flags or the leading pack coming behind him and him and Alonso tangled into T1.
Meanwhile Joni was in a race of his own once again, flying away from the rest. David managed to get onto the back of Muhammed but from there it stayed for the remainder of the race. The gap betweem them was about 3/4 seconds, at the start and end of a stint David was clearly managing his tyres/fuel load better and would bring the gap down to 1/2 seconds but once Muhammed got the feel again he pulled the gap back up to 4 seconds. Very frustrating for David but theres nothing he could do, Muhammed was just to fast for him today.
After a long race Joni Varis managed to keep the car pointing in the same direction and managed to take his 7th race win of the season and with this taking the lead of the Championship by 1 point to David Smith, it will all be decided in the last race of season at the Malaysian Grand Prix in Sepang on the 30th of November. Drvier of the day has been handed out to Stue Abbot, after a horrid time at Toyota his move to BMW has paid of with his first points of the season in a great race, well done to Stue.
Congrats to Joni and we will all look forward to the season finale at Malaysia where the ProF1r Championship will be decided. See you there :)

With only two more races in the championship left we see some driver changes again, today we see the former Toyota line up for Mark Johnston and Stue Abbot move to BMW and former BMW driver Nick Rowland move to Toyota where he will be accompanied by new driver and upcoming talent of Petteri Kotovaara.
Also some new about Redbull, is few weeks old but we see Ben Wilksinson join. We wish BMW Ben and Petteri the very best of luck for the rest of season, and just a quick note about next year again as many of you might already know.
Quote from my forum post:
"Teams and Drivers Just made this post to update you on things as next year goes, as we all know we are still fighting for the 2008 championship and also fighting for good standings position so to get the better choice of car for next year as the champion of 2008 will get first choice of team and he also chooses his teammate too, then 2nd place in championship chooses team and teammate and so on till all seats are filled. But remember its just the drivers who are in fulltime seats you can choose from.
So just to remind you to start having talks with members or drivers that you would wish to be teammates with next year so when the time comes you know who your teammate will be etc. It wont be, you choose someone who you havnt even talked to about it, youll need to have come to an agreement before hand as the driver might already have been in talks with somebody. So get chatting
Possible Winter/Pre-season league When season ends even tho later then normal as we have Australia and Malaysia not to mention the christmas period, we will try have a short fun league to test new mods or anything else in preperation for the new season. We will most likey use MMG08, but you never know a F109 mod might be done intime for season start, so will see what happens, and if MMG08 physics are not up to our standards then this is what the test pre-season sessions will be for, we can edit and change to our liking.
General Info Inbetween old and new seasons things might get abit quiet arround here, but lets not think anything is happening, christmas is a busy time for us all but this league is here to stay and will be rareing to go when F109 comes along in march, so keep positive keep up with the great racing which has been shown up till now." |
